Crumbless Privacy Policy
Crumbless works on your device. It has no server and its code makes no network requests. The developer does not receive your browsing data, cookies, settings, statistics or any analytics.
What the extension does
Crumbless removes cookies and other site data according to rules you choose and skips the sites you protect. You can also clear your browsing history or the downloads list by hand. Automatic cleanup is off until you turn it on.
What the extension handles
- The address of the current tab - when you click the Crumbless icon, to show and clean or protect that site.
- The addresses of open tabs - only if you have given Crumbless access to websites. They are used to work out which sites are open, so that those sites are not cleaned. Only site and host names are kept (see the visit list below), never page addresses.
- Cookies - only for sites you have given access to. To find the cookies to remove, Crumbless asks the browser for the cookies of a site. The browser returns each cookie together with its value, and these cookies can include sign-in (authentication) cookies. Crumbless keeps only what identifies each cookie - its name, domain, path, partition and flags (secure, host-only, cookie store) - to remove the right cookies one by one. It discards the value immediately and never uses, stores or sends it.
- Site data - cache, local storage, IndexedDB, cache storage and service workers are removed through the browser for the sites you or your cleanup rules select. Crumbless does not read this data.
Crumbless does not read page content, passwords or form data. It does not read the browser's own history; the history permission is used only to delete it when you press the button. Incognito windows are not handled.
What is stored on your device
- Your protected sites and settings, including a backup copy of the settings, until you change them or remove the extension. Sites protected "until browser restart" are removed by Crumbless when the browser starts.
- Local statistics: daily counts of cleanups and removed cookies (up to 90 days), counts per site (up to 500 sites: site name, number of cleanups and cookies, time of the last cleanup) and the last 200 activity entries (time, site, what started the cleanup, what was cleaned or skipped and why).
- A visit list, only while automatic cleanup is on: the names of the websites you visit and their host names (up to 20 per site, up to 2,000 sites) with the time of your last visit - never page addresses. It is used to apply your cleanup rules, for example to sites you have not opened for a set number of days.
- Working data: sites waiting for a delayed cleanup and, in temporary storage that the browser clears on restart, the site names of open tabs, the time of the last cleanup attempt per site, the state of the current cleanup and, for up to 10 minutes, the result of an action that finished while the Crumbless window was closed (what was cleaned or skipped, the number of removed cookies and the time - without the site name or address).
All of this is kept in the browser's extension storage on your device.
What leaves your device
Crumbless sends nothing to the developer or to any other service. It has no server, contains no analytics, tracking or ads, and its code makes no network requests: all of its files are packaged with the extension.
Two things are done by the browser itself, not by Crumbless: if your browser syncs your history, clearing your history with Crumbless also deletes that history on your other signed-in devices; and the browser checks the extension store for updates of Crumbless, as it does for every installed extension.
Permissions
At installation Crumbless asks only for storage, alarms, removing browsing data and temporary access to the tab you click. Access to cookies and websites is requested when you clean cookies of a site (that site only) or turn on automatic cleanup (all websites or the sites you choose). The history and downloads permissions are requested the first time you use those buttons. You can revoke access in the browser's extension settings; automatic cleanup then turns off.
Your controls and deleting your data
- See and edit your protected sites in the Dashboard → Protection, and every cleanup with its result in Activity.
- Turn automatic cleanup off in the Dashboard → Automatic cleanup; this also erases the visit list.
- Erase the statistics, the activity log and the visit list with Reset statistics in the Dashboard → Tools. Clearing history with Crumbless also erases the visit list.
- Revoke access to websites in the browser's extension settings at any time; automatic cleanup then turns off.
- When you remove the extension, the browser deletes the data Crumbless kept in its extension storage.
Collection, sharing and sale
The developer does not collect, transmit, sell or share browsing data, cookies, site names, settings, statistics, identifiers, analytics or telemetry. Nothing is used for advertising, profiling or credit decisions, and no person can view your data through the developer.
Limited use
Data handled by Crumbless is used only for its single purpose: cleaning browsing data according to your rules while skipping the sites you protect. Crumbless's use of this information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and with the Microsoft Edge Add-ons developer policies.
Changes
If Crumbless's data practices change, this policy and its effective date will be updated before the new version is released.
